Holy cow, this was a great episode, too. I must have never rewatched this, because there were several things in it that I have no memory of.
— You just know that Vern would be a Trump supporter if this were set in present day. I can totally picture him at a “Make America Great Again” rally.

— Old man Mineo is my second-favorite CO after Murphy. They should’ve had more stories about him. (Although then there'd be a good chance that I'd no longer like him so much, so maybe it’s just as well. LOL)
— You know what, if Toby hasn’t been out of bed for days, that means he’s not working at his job in the dress factory. Shouldn’t he have gotten in trouble for that?
— RE: "Please sir, may I fuck my wife." This is so hard to watch and makes me uncomfortable, but it’s so great when Toby gets fed up and finally shouts the line back at Vern. We get that very first hint that Toby has some fire in him, and it’s that realization that will help carry me through the next few episodes.
— LOL at Genevieve’s posh little neck-scarf and super-stylish Jennifer Aniston haircut.

— Where did Toby get the bouquet of flowers? Sister Pete, I guess? Maybe Oz has a flower garden?

— I want to sympathize with Genevieve, or at least understand her, because what Toby did was horrible and it fucked up her life and God knows living/dealing with an alcoholic is brutal even when he/she doesn’t commit vehicular homicide BUT that whole "You’re not in it—you’re not in [Holly’s] painting" is just such an incredibly bitchy thing to say/do to him and I can’t move past it.
— Although, YAY! Another shot of Lee’s ass! (And also some random dude who we never see again.) Now I feel a little better.

— Ugh, Vern threatening Beecher’s family via his sons, and the foreshadowing for Gary’s death.
— Groves! I LOVE Groves. I may have already mentioned this. Even when there are scenes of him just standing around, he makes such an impression.
— Hill’s flashback: I love the synchronization of the cops’ battering ram with the banging of the headboard. That’s really great.
— Oh, my. I forgot all about this NSFW shot.

Let's make it bigger (THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID):

— I love this conversation about sex between Adebisi & Hill, how Hill can get hard and come but can’t feel anything, and he does it for his wife.
— Adebisi standing in for Mavis at Keene's wedding cracks me up.

— It’s really sad how Ray is trying to get Miguel to take responsibility for raising a baby, knowing what ultimately happens.
— OMG MIGUEL GOT HIS HEADBAND BACK!!!

— That’s funny. I do not remember Peter Schibetta appearing in Season 1.
— Vern was Ryan’s sponsor? I don’t remember that at all, either.
— Oh wow, this scene where Nino is giving instructions for organizing his wife’s funeral, and then the grief suddenly hits him and he breaks down. What wonderful acting by Tony Musante. I think this is my favorite moment of the episode. Then he turns right back around and goes to interrogate Johnny Post. There’s some serious compartmentalization going on inside him.

— Special thanks to the “Wascomat Laundry Systems"? WTF?

In Conclusion:
Episode Rating: 10/10
Lee Rating: 10/10
Lee's Hair Rating: 6/10 (unchanged from Episode 1)

Date: 2018-07-21 08:10 am (UTC)Yeah, Gen is kinda bitchy with that. Poor, poor Toby.
Vern would be Trump's number one fan.

Date: 2018-07-21 03:46 pm (UTC)I think Gen's line is all in the delivery. I think it's meant to be more sad than cruel, but the way she delivers it is just off. It's just a statement on how her life is at the time - he's not in the picture. The little smile she has on her face is what spoils it.
Adebisi is perfect in this episode. You can see at this point that his character wasn't going to be on the sidelines forever.
After Edit... (sorry, I'm still new here...)
Date: 2018-08-16 06:11 pm (UTC)- Anyway, mine too :)

Date: 2019-10-08 02:35 pm (UTC)I wonder if Vern treated others the way he treated Beecher, I bet he didn't, Beecher was just too condescending.
I love Nino Schibetta!!!

Date: 2019-10-20 05:17 pm (UTC)Which, I think, Vern found intriguing as well as infuriating (he just never wanted to admit it).
I love Nino Schibetta!!!
I was SO sad that his character didn't last longer, especially in contrast to other characters who lasted longer than they should have. (Yeah, I'm looking at you, Kenny... )

Date: 2019-10-21 06:46 am (UTC)High class, nice family...
Vern wants Beecher to look up to him, but instead Beecher is totally indifferent towards him, no matter what Vern is doing to him, and it drives Schillinger crazy, he doesn't have a choice but to escalate more and more...
Chris understood immediately that Vern needs to feel adored, so he let him have it, and that's why their relationship took a different path compared to Schillinger/Beecher.
Beecher felt superior in Oz and acted like it, so obviously Vern felt the need to change it.
I can't write well in English, but I count on you to understand me :)
I am now watching e4. It's hard for me to finish it because I don't want to see the death penalty in action, but I'll try to finish it now. Maybe we can continue together after e6 :D

(My own foreign language experience consists of 2 years of high school Latin, so I'm always impressed with people who have managed to learn/speak/write in multiple languages.)
