Oz Rewatch: S1E4 Capital P

I enjoyed this episode and its approach to the controversial issue of capital punishment (well "enjoyed" is probably not the right word... but you know what I mean). I liked how Fontana applied it to two very different types of criminals (Keane the religious, remorseful killer vs. L'Italien the unrepentant, violent serial killer), consequently giving viewers pause for thought, whether their beliefs be pro- or anti-death penalty.
— LOL at Leo’s WTF look of disgust when Devlin defends capital punishment by saying that punishments should be as random/senseless as the crimes.

— I love that they used the 1965 Blackout and Rebadow's attempted execution as the reason for his connection to God.
— If Toby lost his job when Sister Pete was fired, then where is he working now? This is the type of important question that the show never seems to answer. ;)
— Aww, it's nice to see Toby laugh.

— But OMG Beecher is SO STUPID sometimes. Surely, he must realize that Vern is the last person who would have a problem with Keane’s execution.
— Vern rubbing Toby's nipple with his foot. Ugh.

— I see Toby is mixing his darks with his lights when he throws his clothes in the washing machine. Doesn't he know how to do laundry? Maybe those are Vern's clothes, and he doesn't care?
— Wow, Keane wanting to sacrifice his life to stop the cycle of violence parallels what Toby tries to do four seasons later in "Cuts Like a Knife."
— I hate Healey. I can’t remember what happens to him, but I hope it’s something bad.
— Don't listen to Ryan, Toby! Listen to Nancy Reagan instead! Just say no!
— Dammit. Toby says yes.

— Ryan is so damn smart and sneaky. I love how he effortlessly convinces the homeboys that Joey D’Angelo was the one behind Keane’s setup.
— My GROVES! Licking the blood from D’Angelo’s wound. That's so gross.

— Oooh, slashy Miguel/Ray.
— Good for McManus for stepping up and letting Miguel see his baby. I forget that sometimes I really like Tim.
— And my first tears of the show are shed during the death of Miguel’s baby. I think it’s the partly the music, but Kirk and especially the actress playing his girlfriend convey so much (silent) helplessness and despair.

— "Where was God when my son died?" "Same place he was when he own son died." Love this brilliant bit of dialogue.
— Hmm, Tim’s being a little harsh on Gloria for agreeing to be the physician who witnesses Keane's execution. Someone has to do it, why not someone who is sympathetic to the inmate and his situation? It's better than some cold random stranger IMO.
— Oh and then Tim gets physical and grabs her arm and punches the wall? Fuck you, Tim. (sorry
cmk418) Just when I start to like you, you do something shitty like that.

— And then with the speed of light, Tim moves right on to Diane... *rolls eyes*
— I've never seen "I Want to Live" with Susan Hayward, but I do know that she won the Acadamy Award for Best Actress for her performance in the movie. I should try to track it down someday.
—Why are Tim and Diane having sex in a cell? They really couldn’t wait to find a better place?

— Love this close-up of Keane's eye as he dies and how it ties back to Diane’s Bambi story, and then the segue to a post-coital Tim and Diane. That's some wonderful camera work/editing there.

— OMG!!! L'Italien says he always wanted to "piss on a redwood next to Donald Trump"!!!! LOLOL Trump could've used him instead of those Russian hookers!
— Eric Roberts looks nothing like his sister Julia.

— L'Italien was such a powerful, memorable character. It's funny to realize that he was only in this one episode and only had about 10 minutes of screen time.
In Conclusion:
Episode Rating: 9/10
Lee Rating: 10/10
Lee's Hair Rating: 6/10 (same ol'... maybe someone will give him a makeover soon! :D)
