[sticky entry] Sticky: My Fanfiction Master List

Hey! I finally got my act together and assembled a Master List of all my fanfic! :-)

The list's organization is pretty self-expalantory: fic is arranged by fandom in the order of date posted, with my drabbles/ficlets and RPF at the end. I thought about grouping the stories according to pairings and main characters, but that quickly became problematic and just didn't seem practical. Suffice it to say, the vast majority of my fic focuses on (or stems from) the Beecher/Keller pairing in HBO's Oz. But I've also written a fair amount of McManus/Murphy, gen fic, crossovers with L&O:SVU, RPF, as well as other odds and ends in other fandoms (including Stranger Things, Harry Potter, and What We Do in the Shadows).

Stories are posted to my personal LJ unlesss otherwise indicated. I have also archived all my stories to AO3, and those links are given as well.

Feedback is always appreciated, no matter how old the story might be. :-)

Spook Me FIC: The Cat in the Pumpkin Patch (Stranger Things, PG)

Oh hey, I actually wrote something again. It's been a while! I think it's put me in the mood to do some upcoming holiday writing... ;D

Title: The Cat in the Pumpkin Patch

Rating: PG
Word Count: 1,915
Creature Prompt: Evil Cat
Summary: It's a good thing Steve isn't superstitious. But maybe he should be.

Spook Me FIC: The House Next Door (Halloween - 1978 movie, PG-13)

Despite a general dislike for horror movies, I LOVE the original Halloween (1978) movie. (I think it helps that I've watched it so many times now, I know every scene practically frame-by-frame and it no longer scares me. Well, it still scares me, but in a good way, not a traumatic way, if that makes sense.) It's without a doubt in my Top 10 list of all-time favorite movies. It's simply a masterpiece in filmmaking--the pacing, the camera work, and OMG the MUSIC. John Carpenter is a genius, and it's remarkable what he accomplished, especially considering the budget. One scene in particular always has an impact on me (as explained in my end note), and for this year's third and final Spook Me story, I decided to pay tribute to it.

Title: The House Next Door
Main Characters: Unnamed Canon Characters, Laurie Strode, Michael Myers
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 1,526
Creature Prompt: Boogeyman
Summary: When Laurie Strode came to their house, begging for help, they should've just opened the door.
Notes: Written for the 2021 Spook Me Mult-Fandom Halloween Ficathon. Cross-posted to AO3 and Livejournal. The artwork prompt used for the story is included at the end. Additional inspiration for this story is explained in the end note.

This story is based entirely on a short scene in the original Halloween (1978) movie, where Laurie cries for a neighbor's help and is ignored. The neighbor is unnamed in the movie, so I've made one up for ease in storytelling.

Halloween Night, 1978

It had been a long day, and Mary Castle was exhausted. The kids had wanted to trick-or-treat until their bags were full, and it felt like they'd visited every house within a half-mile radius of their own. She curled up on the living room couch to watch a bit of television before bed, and then promptly dozed off…

Until the sound of terrified screaming roused her from her sleep.

Spook Me FIC: The Plant Slayer (What We Do In The Shadows-TV, PG-13)

This summer I watched the 2014 movie "What We Do in the Shadows," a mock documentary comedy about vampires (I love anything Taika Waititi does). Then in September, I binge-watched the first two seasons of the TV series that is based on it. OMG, it is simply laugh-out loud hilarious. I love it so much, even more than the movie. And Nandor/Guillermo is the first slashy pairing I've had feelings for in a long time. The third season is now currently airing on FX, and while it hasn't been quite as sharp as the first two seasons IMO, it is still delightful. Anyway, I wrote this year's second Spook Me fic for this show...

Title: The Plant Slayer
Main Characters: Nandor the Relentless, Guillermo de la Cruz, Nadja, Laszlo Cravensworth, Colin Robinson, the Documentary Crew
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 2,066
Creature Prompt: Plant
Summary: Things get weird(er) when Nandor replaces all the candles in the house with potted plants.
Notes: A humorus spooky fic, mostly gen ensemble but with minor Nandor/Guillermo. Setting: late Season 2. Written for the 2021 Spook Me Mult-Fandom Halloween Ficathon. Cross-posted to AO3 and Livejournal. The artwork prompt used for the story is included at the end.

Spook Me FIC: Burying Secrets (Oz, PG-13)

I wrote not one, not two, but THREE stories for the Spook Me fest this year! I don't think I've written anything since last year's Oz Magi, so this was quite the accomplishment. Two of them are for fandoms I've never written in before, so... braving new territory here! I'll be making each fic a separate post, because my OCD tells me to. Heh.

First up... Oz, which is also the story I'm the most pleased with.

Happy Halloween, my friends!

Title: Burying Secrets
Main Characters/Pairings: Tobias Beecher/Chris Keller
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 1,671
Creature Prompt: Skeleton
Summary: Chris tries to bury a secret, when past secrets come to bury him.
Notes: Written for the 2021 Spook Me Mult-Fandom Halloween Ficathon. Cross-posted to AO3 and Livejournal. The artwork prompt used for the story is included at the end.

______________________________________

The last remnants of a hot and muggy summer were fading into fall, and Chris drove with the windows down. The cool evening air felt good as it passed through the car, and the dull white noise of the rushing wind helped calm his frayed nerves. He could still hear the engine making that faint rattling sound, but he wasn’t worried, not yet. The border was closer than ever.

URGENT! OZ Reunion and Zo short film!

Late notice, I know, but I've been trying like the devil to get concrete information on this whole thing before posting about it.

Tonight at 8:30 pm Central Time, the ATX Festival is hosting a virtual Oz reunion with Tom, Lee, Dean, Kirk, Terry, and Harold. It was originally supposed to take place last June in Austin, Texas but got cancelled because of the pandemic. Rather than cancelling the festival again this year, the organizers decided to take it all online. The Oz reunion is in a Zoom format and was actually recorded last week.

Tickets for the entire festival cost $150, but you can purchase a day pass for only $25 (plus about $5 in taxes/fees) HERE and watch the reunion that way. That's what I've done.

EVEN MORE EXCITING THOUGH ------>

As part of the festival's additional content, Tom Fontana wrote a 15-minute short film called "Zo" starring Lee and Dean where they reprise their roles as Beecher and Ryan O'Reily in an Oz "sequel." You can watch this short with the purchase of your day pass. (I think you can actually watch it by buying a day pass any day from now until the end of the festival on June 20.) I've just finished watching and *FLAILING*. It was OZSOME and leaves you wanting so much more! IT'S JUST SO EXCITING TO HAVE NEW OZ CONTENT.

Plot bunnies ------> hop, hop, HOP!

Crawling out of Covid's Black Hole

I am all better now! But the month of November was just an awful, Covid-filled blur for me and my family.

It all started on Friday, November 6, when my teenage son came home from hockey practice with a fever and sore throat. We took him in for a Covid test, then quarantined him in his room, sterilized common touch points, began wearing our masks around the house, etc. He was only sick for about 3 or 4 days, but the damage had been done. His test result came back positive, and a few days later I came down with it.

I had a 100+ degree fever that lasted over TWO WEEKS, tightness in my chest, cough, runny nose, loss of smell/taste. Nothing serious enough to require a doctor's visit, but for several days, I couldn't even get out of bed. Then, despite quarantining myself, my husband caught it as well, although his case was a relatively mild one like our son's.

Needless to say, Thanksgiving was ruined. My extended family had decided back in October to cancel Thanksgiving (and Christmas, too) so as not to run the risk of exposing my elderly parents to the virus, but I had still planned to do something special for my immediate family. Instead, my two older sons spent Thanksgiving alone in their college apartments, while we ate some pre-made subs grabbed from Walmart for our "Thanksgiving dinner."

Thankfully, everyone is now mostly recovered. For a while, I had issues with a lingering cough and fatigue, but I've spent the last couple days putting up Christmas decorations and felt good.

This should probably be the point where I give an ending spiel advising everyone to wear masks, social distance, wash hands, etc. And you should! BUT, we did all those things. We've been doing all those things DILIGENTLY since March. Literally the ONLY places my son had been the two weeks prior to getting sick were school and hockey practice, both places where everyone is masked up and taking extraordinary precautions. And we STILL caught it. All it took was one opening somewhere, and it can happen no matter how careful you are.

So please, PLEASE, do all you can to isolate yourself until there is a vaccine available. Especially if you or anyone close to you has underlying health conditions. I am an active, healthy, middle-aged (*cough*) woman, and this thing still knocked me on my ass.

Here's to a making the Christmas season is a merry one, despite the lack of "celebrating." :)

Spook Me FIC: Strangers in the Night (Oz, PG-13)

I wrote a story! A longer-ish story! It's been a while!

Happy Halloween, my fellow Oz peeps!

Title: Strangers in the Night
Main Characters/Pairings: Tobias Beecher/Chris Keller, Holly Beecher
Rating: PG-13 (some gruesome imagery)
Length: 9,400
Creature Prompt: Zombies
Summary: In the midst of a zombie apocalypse, Chris loses Toby in the woods.
Notes: Set in a post-series world where Chris didn't die and Toby doesn't hate him. Written for the 2020 Spook Me Mult-Fandom Halloween Ficathon. Cross-posted to AO3 and Livejournal. The artwork prompt used for the story (which is actually from the 2019 Spook Me collection) is included at the end.

______________________________________

Chris shivered uneasily as a strong breeze swept through the woods, rustling the withered leaves on the trees. He zipped up his jacket and contemplated the endless stretch of greens and browns that surrounded them. An ominous cold knot began to form in his stomach.

"I think we’re lost."

Less than thirty feet away, Toby stood motionless, his head down. He gave Chris no sign to indicate that he’d heard what he’d said. Instead, he continued to stare silently at something in his hand, transfixed by what he saw.

"I said," Chris called out, louder this time. "I think we're LOST."

Revisiting the Oz - Godfather IV stage reading

Back in May 2010, there was an Oz reunion of sorts when several cast members assembled in NYC to do a charity stage reading of the play "The Godfather, Part IV." The play was written by Tom Fontana, with the proceeds benefiting the Writers Guild of America. "Godfather IV" was a comedy where the actors played fictionalized versions of themselves, often incorporating the personality traits of their Oz counterparts. Oz fans from all over (including many from Livejournal) attended "MobFest" and came back with rave reviews on how uproariously funny the play was, and how generous and gracious the actors and Tom Fontana were after each of the two performances (there was one in the afternoon and another the same evening).

Unfortunately, I did not discover Oz until 2012, and missed all the squee associated with this legendary event. As fate would have it, however, someone recorded the audio of the first performance and [personal profile] tobyfan recently sent me a copy (THANK YOU ANNE!). And, let me tell you, IT SURPASSED ALL MY EXPECTIONS. It was every bit as OZSOME as I'd always imagined.

And, yes, Lee Tergesen was totally the star of the show. :D

Being the devoted fan I am, I decided that more needed to be done to immortize this milestone event in Oz fandom. I therefore took it upon myself to transcribe the entire play from the audio recording so other fans could better understand what the play was like (or reminisce, as the case may be). The transcription is not 100% perfect (there was so much laughter at various points in time, it was sometimes difficult to hear exactly what was being said), but it is very, VERY close. There were several instances of onstage visual humor that aren't necessarily reflected in the transcript (for example, there was prolonged laughter at the point where Chris Meloni and Tom Fontana "snuggled" together onstage), but you'll be able to get a very accurate idea of what the play was like.

Please note, I am going to ask that no one re-post this anywhere else. I have a feeling the recording was not entirely legal, and I don't want to be responsible for raising Awkward Questions about its origin.

I hope you enjoy it!

Apocalypse

Last week I ordered this book about a plague-based apocalypse that [livejournal.com profile] severina2001 had recommended, and yesterday it arrived in the mail:

image.jpg

Great timing, huh? Somehow, I'm not quite as enthused about reading it as I was a week ago. I'm worried that I might need it as a survival guide now.

Also, that B/K apocafic AU I've been working? Not so enthused about that, either. Granted, it's zombie-based, rather disease, but still.

Like everyone, I have been especially disturbed by the speed in which everything has happened. Here in Michigan, my family's life has been upended in about a dozen significant ways since Wednesday morning, but I know it's nothing worth complaining about. We're all healthy (for now) and that's what important. Although I do worry about my elderly parents, who don't seem to fully realize the gravity of the situation. (I told them not to leave their house, and they thought I as joking.)

Stay safe, my friends. ♥

ATTENTION grammar nerds.

I was in the process of writing my latest drabble for [livejournal.com profile] hardtime100 when I decided to watch the folllowing deleted scene from Cuts Like a Knife for inspiration:

I've always been disappointed with their decision to cut this scene, because it gives so much information with respect to the status of B/K's relationship at this point in time. (During my initial watch of the show, I found the jump from Toby informing Chris of Ronnie's betrayal to their heartfelt talk about Toby sacrificing himself to save Holly to be really jarring). Plus, that kiss on the back of Chris's neck! SWOON. How could they cut THAT? The editors must have been CRAZY, because surely there were other scenes that could've been removed if time was an issue.

But after watching the clip this time, what stands out more than anything to me is the GLARING grammatical error in the dialouge.

Beecher: Lot of questions about you and he.

You and he? *twitches* You and HE? WTF. I now think the reason they cut it was because they were too embarrassed to let such a mistake slip through to broadcast.

I refuse to believe that Lee read the line incorrectly, but I also can't believe that Tom Fontana, one of the greatest writers in TV history and the writer of this episode, made this grade-school level mistake in basic pronoun usage. Maybe he had some careless intern typing up the script from his hand-written legal notepad. One who was 12 years old.

SHEESH.

Good Omens squee (+ more Bonus LEE)

Oh wow. I made an unintentional couplet.

Good Omens squee
More bonus Lee.

Anyway! This weekend I watched the Good Omens mini-series on Amazon Prime, and OHMY, it was DELIGHTFUL.

*flails*

My oldest fandom friend has been pimping the show and recently wrote some fic for it after a long fic-writing hiatus, and I basically watched the show due entirely to her enthusiasm for it. And it did not disappoint! Michael Sheen and David Tennant are beyond awesome in their roles as the angel and the demon (OH THE SLASH), and Michael McKean is of course wonderful in everything he does. And the kids were great too, realisitic yet still cute somehow (even though one of them is the literal son of Satan, heh).

Highly Recommend!

Just curious, has anyone read the Terry Pratchett/Neil Gaiman book upon which the series is based? I'm thinking of asking for it for Christmas, and I'm wondering how it compares to the show.

And as if that wasn't exciting enough, Lee appeared in Sunday night's episode of  "Watchmen," a new HBO series based upon the DC comic. He played a masked vigilante named Mister Shadow, who looks remarkably like Batman. Woot! Here are some screencaps of Lee, making your freaky roleplay fantasies come true:

watchmen 4.png

watchmen 2.png

watchmen 3.png

watchmen 1.png

His one scene was barely a two minutes long, and probably 50% of it was done with a stunt double. So I'm wondering if this is (once AGAIN) another case of him being tragically underused, or if maybe this is the start of a recurring role? Fingers crossed for the latter. (I actually sent him a tweet asking about it using the account affiliated with his website, but I'm sure he will ignore it. Argh. Let me be your pimp, Lee! USE ME!)

New Tom Fontana "Homicide"/"Oz" Interview (+ Bonus LEE)

Earlier this month, Tom Fontana gave an absolutely fascinating interview with a podcast called The Crime Story where he talked about the making of "Homicide: Life on the Street" and "Oz." The interview is over an hour in length, but there is also a written transcript that you can read (if you're like me and don't have the patience to sit and listen to audio for that long). I highly recommend checking it out:

The Crime Story Podcast with Kary Antholis, Episode 33: Tom Fontana, Homicide, and Oz

In looking through the podcast's tags, I discovered that David Simon did a four-part interview with the show in September, totalling nearly three hours (!) in length. I haven't read/listened to those episodes yet, but I'm guessing they're insightful as well. Here is a link to part one of Simon's interview:

The Crime Story Podcast with Kary Antholis, Epiosde 24: David Simon, The Wire, The Corner, and Homicide

Which reminds me... I never did finish watching the end of Homicide. I still need to watch the last half of the last season (so, about 10 episodes) and the two-hour TV movie finale. I sort of lost some interest in the show in the last season after Andre Braugher and Reed Diamond left. But now I'm feeling somewhat motivated, and I think I'll move that back up to the top of my To Watch list.

And, in semi-related news... Lee appeared in the CBS show "Bull" on Monday night playing a prosecutor, and ohmygoodness he looked particularly scrumptious (WOOT he shaved!). Here are a few bonus screencaps for your viewing pleasure:

FIC/ART: Stranger Things, Harry Potter, M*A*S*H - Fandom Giftbox

Last month, I wrote some stories and created some artwork for the Fandom Giftbox fest over at Dreamwidth. The reveals were recently held, and here's a list with links to my contributions.

Stranger Things (fic):

Peace of Mind on AO3 (G, 1,400 words)
Summary: Steve and Nancy share an awkward conversation after Barb's funeral. Later, Dustin makes Steve feel better, and Steve makes Dustin feel better.

Family Video Night on AO3 (G, 1,700 words)
Summary: When it comes to the Scoops Troop, the more things change, the more they stay the same.

Harry Potter (fic and artwork):

Resourcefulness on AO3 (G, 1,000 words)
Summary: Harry is sorted into Slytherin house, where he discovers the uniquely unifying power of sports.

M*A*S*H (artwork):

Heart + Soul + Mind on Dreamwidth

I also did a quick pinch hit for a rare fandom--the 2018 movie Game Night (starring Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams). Unfortunately, when I was getting ready to post the story, I realized its genre (kidfic) was one of the wisher's explicit Do Not Wants. Oops. It wasn't something I could just edit out, so I now have this extra story just lying around. Maybe I'll post it around Christmas (which is when the story is set) to AO3, even though there is literally only one story in that fandom posted there. Ah well, lesson learned! :/
